Had a nice couple days skiing in my new neighborhood. The first day I took advantage of the freshly opened Boreas Pass Road and headed up Baldy; or more accurately “South Baldy”. I made good time and met Sam from Houston along the way. We teamed up and dropped into the East Bowl for run number one. The corn was perfect and we non-stopped the 1800′ line. We then headed back up for the Chicken Strip. This was also a nonstop. Such a fun day and a 4k day. Afterwards I rode the backyard, Blair Witch to the Colorado Trail. Love where you live. With freezing temps expected that night we made a plan for the next day.
Ally picked me up and we headed to the trailhead to meet Natalie. We had a solid plan and a goal of skiing the North Couloir at about 11am. We made decent time and everything went right as scheduled. The entrance was a bit melted but we managed to ski 99% of the line and got the summit ski. If the snow is higher than where the summit marked on the map is, should you ski from that point or the point marked on the map? Not that I actually care. This was a really fun steep line with some funky runnel action in the choke at the bottom. We managed to ski all the way to the little lake at its base. Thanks for joining us Natalie, this was more difficult than most first tours, nice to get out with a new partner with such solid skills. Looking forward to the next time.
