This is a little late cause I just got back from Vegas, but enjoy. It is very different in the Tushars after yesterday. The driving on I-15 was gnar at 2am this morning. The winds down in the valley were topping 50 and there was at least 4 inches I can only imagine how much snow is up high now, but I would guess it would be feet plural with a ton of wind loading.
After the many texts and pm’s I had finally worked out the plan. Get up early and leave Denver, heading west to the Tushars for a sunset ski with cdlv AKA Chris and then cruise down to Vegas to meet up with my brother for some biking and fun. I left the house at 6:50am and made it to Beaver, UT at 1:30pm. We made our way up past the old Elk Meadows ski area and started skinning at the hairpin corner. The snow was a bit thin but I guess we’d have to just make do with what we had. Everyday can’t be pow turns. Besides this trip was more about breaking up the drive to Vegas. Chris ended up having some cramping issues and decided to meet me at the base of the Southwest Bowl after I went for the summit. The sunset was one of the best I’ve ever seen. The turns were some of the firmest. Once we got out of the SW Bowl we skirted to the flank of Lake Peak and got some very decent recycled pow turns near the trees. It was a trip skiing down in the dark. We skied all the way back to the car. I can’t believe how many stars there were in the sky, it’s amazing how light pollution kills the view of the night sky.
It was nice meeting you Chris and I’m looking forward to going after some of that stuff we were talking about next spring. TGR Forum does it again Coming through with partners from different regions of the planet. Such a great place. To next time my friend, and a speedy recovery as well
